SURVEY REVEALS AN EFFECTIVE MANAGING PARTNER IS CRUCIAL FOR LAW FIRM SUCCESS

Additional Survey Results and Developing Relationships With General Counsel To Be Discussed During The Managing Partner Forum

ATLANTA - May 12, 2005 - Effective leadership is among the most important factors in building a successful law firm according to a new survey being conducted by the organizers of The Managing Partner Forum for Southeastern Law Firms, one of the nation’s most comprehensive programs specifically designed to address and solve the challenges of running a successful and profitable law firm. The results of the survey will be revealed during the keynote address during The Forum’s Southeastern Conference June 7 at the Capital City Club in downtown Atlanta.

“The analysis clearly supports the concept that the most successful and dynamic law firms run less like a fraternity and more like a business,” said John Remsen, Jr., President & CEO of The Managing Partner Forum. “During The Forum we will detail how managing partners are essential in initiating change and establishing consensus among the partners in areas such as growth strategies, firm governance and compensation plans.”

Remsen and Stephen Collins, President of Juris, Inc., one of largest providers of law firm management software, polled dozens of law firm managers from across the Southeastern United States. Remsen said issues that emerged during the evaluations and input from The Forum’s Advisory Board helped structure the programming for The Forum’s interactive sessions.

Based on highly successful programs in Florida and Texas, The Managing Partner Forum for Southeastern Law Firms will provide invaluable insights on management issues and offer unique peer networking opportunities. The full-day event is expected to attract more than 100 managing partners and leaders representing top law firms with ten or more attorneys from Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.

The luncheon program offers an innovative session titled, “CROSSFIRE.” It features a fast-paced, entertaining and cutting-edge “debate” on the evolving and often conflicting relationship between corporate legal departments and the law firms they hire and supervise. Topics will include billing practices, staffing issues, communication, diversity, effective marketing strategies and tort reform.

The panelists include Scott Burton, Corporate General Counsel with ING North America Insurance Corporation; Corliss Scroggins Lawson, Partner-In-Charge-Atlanta with Lord Bissell & Brook; Raymond W. Perez, General Counsel with Honda Manufacturing of Alabama, Stephen W. Riddell, Managing Partner-Atlanta with Troutman Sanders; and Allan J. Tanenbaum, Senior Vice President & General Counsel, AFC Enterprises, Inc. Patrick J. Fuller, Regional Account Manager with Martindale-Hubbell will serve as moderator.

Remsen, one of the nation’s most recognized authorities in the field of law firm marketing, is President & CEO of The Remsen Group, a consulting firm that provides a full array of marketing services to law firms. Remsen’s impressive legal background combined with his marketing experience qualifies him as a knowledgeable speaker, author and researcher on legal marketing topics.
